The Guro Hospital specialist training center that has produced trauma specialists for 11 years
will end operations at the end of this month due to budget cuts.
"It will be difficult to produce trauma specialists."
The reason why the Guro Hospital Trauma Specialization Training Center was closed is because the annual budget of 900 million won that the government had been supporting was not paid this year. The entire project cost was cut when the Ministry of Health and Welfare's 2025 budget was set at 125.5 trillion won, which is about 165.5 billion won less than the budget submitted to the National Assembly. A Ministry of Health and Welfare official said, "As the main budget for the specialized treatment system for severe trauma was cut, the project operating cost of 900 million won per year was also completely cut," and "Since the budget was not allocated, it became difficult to operate the project this year."
THE COMMENTS:
- ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ How can they cut the budget for something like this?
- Seriously, budget cuts? What the hell... ㅠㅠㅠㅠ
- ......At a time when a drama about trauma centers is a huge hit, this news is just heartbreaking.
- They can't provide 900 million KRW and are shutting down such an important institution..? This is ridiculous.
- ??: Anyway, if they increase medical school quotas, more people will supposedly go into trauma surgery.
- Instead of wasting money on pointless projects like some giant whale, they should invest here.
- The people who participated in these budget cuts should just die if they ever get into an accident.
- The truly necessary things disappear while useless ones keep increasing...
- What is the government even doing?
- They cut taxes only to stuff their own pockets.
- What are the politicians doing???????
- ㅠㅠ They should cut unnecessary things instead. The budget cuts are happening everywhere—what’s going to happen to our country?
- Drama is just drama, after all.
- This is seriously infuriating.
- Why are they cutting the budget for something like this while wasting money on that ridiculous giant whale project?
- They're slashing the welfare budget like crazy...
- Everything necessary is being cut. ㅠㅠ
- What the f***... What are they planning to do? Even supporters of the ruling party will get into accidents too.
- With the drama raising awareness, I hope they feel the pressure and fund it properly.
- They're shutting it down over 900 million KRW..? Ugh...
- The drama is a massive success, but reality is...
- I was already worried after watching the drama, and now this? This is so frustrating.
- They poured money into Ukraine but can't spare 900 million KRW for this?
- The president recklessly spent 2 trillion KRW for votes, so now they’re wasting money on unnecessary hospitals while essential places have no budget.
- The production cost of the drama is probably more than 900 million KRW. This is so sad.
- 900 million KRW annually... The profit from the drama's success must be way higher than that.
- No way, they're shutting it down over 900 million KRW? But they have money for Ukraine?
- The drama's production budget is probably more than this. What kind of ironic situation is this? It's infuriating.
- They’re practically committing indirect murder.
- If they had just saved a little from the wasted budget, they could have easily covered this amount, but instead, they're shutting it down after cutting 900 million won? 😢
- They weren’t even given much, just 900 million won, and now they’re cutting that too?
- If it was reduced from what was submitted to the National Assembly, does that mean the government allocated it, but the National Assembly cut it?
- They can’t even provide 900 million won… The Ministry of Economy and Finance is the problem.
- Reality is so different from dramas. 😭😭😭
- The Ministry of Health’s budget cuts aren’t even coming from that side.
- At this rate, we could easily raise the money through nationwide crowdfunding. Sigh.
- The drama is a hit, but reality is...
- It wasn’t the National Assembly that cut this budget… The way it's written makes it misleading.…
- They don’t even have 900 million won to support this…
- This is so frustrating. 😭😭😭 If they had just saved the money wasted on nonsense…
- Cutting support for children and the elderly is just too much.
- They don’t have 900 million won… This is crazy.
- 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
- When they spent hundreds of billions opening the Blue House and relocating to Yongsan, it was like spare change to them…
- Let’s raise money by selling drama Blu-rays.
- Even 900 million won is too little… They waste national funds recklessly but cut budgets like this.
- Just die already, you corrupt politicians.
- Things are getting really bad… The budget is seriously lacking everywhere…
- They spent 12 billion won just on ads for increasing medical school admissions?
- 😭😭😭 What a backward country… 😭😭
- Hopeless… They gave only 900 million won, and now even that is gone… If only webtoons or dramas were reality.
- ☞ In dramas, unless someone like Baek Kang-hyuk shows up, it’s impossible… 😢😢😢
- The country is collapsing all because of one greedy pig. Ugh.
- They waste the budget on nonsense, and now they say there’s no money? The country is going to collapse. 😢
- With the closure of the only severe trauma specialist training center in the country, the already scarce supply of specialists is now facing a crisis. Currently, about 70% of active severe trauma specialists graduated from this center. Severe trauma treatment requires quick response and extensive experience, which is why dedicated training is crucial. Dr. Lee Guk-jong, who treated Captain Seok Hae-kyun after the 2011 Aden Gulf pirate attack, is a well-known severe trauma specialist.
- To train more specialists, the center must reopen, but the Ministry of Health says an immediate reopening is difficult. Some believe additional funding (a supplementary budget) might be possible, but its approval remains uncertain. A ministry official said, “Right now, there’s no available source of funding,” but added that if operational funds were provided, reopening would be possible. A Korea University Guro Hospital official also stated, “We’ve visited the ministry multiple times asking for a solution, but they’ve said there’s no clear answer,” emphasizing that they would resume operations immediately if they received funding. They also assured that, while the training center will be closed, treatment for severe trauma patients will continue as usual.
- Increase the number of specialists ~~ You money-hungry people ~ Work with a sense of duty
