(G)I-DLE
Let’s talk about first week sales
LATATA: 2,000 units → SUPERLADY: 1.53 million units
There’s a saying that (G)I-DLE has blown up three times.
FIRST: Debut track "LATATA"
"LATATA" - entry of "HANN" (digital single) + League of Legends’ "POP/STARS"
Senorita's initial sales rose to 20,000 copies.
"Senorita" was followed by "Uh-Oh," which received mixed reactions.
SECOND: appearing In "Queendom 1," they were the youngest group to participate.
They left an impressive impact with their final track, produced by Lion, even though they didn't win.
After that, "Oh My God" saw a dramatic jump in initial sales from 20,000 to 110,000 copies.
In 2020, they released the hit song "DUMDi DUMDi," which performed well.
In early 2021, their "I Burn" album also achieved great records in both streaming and sales, but...
Then this happened, leading to a hiatus for 1 year and 2 months.
At that time, if you clicked on posts in forums about uncertain girl groups, the subject was often (G)I-DLE.
THIRD: The first song released after the 1-year-2-month hiatus as a 5-member group was "TOMBOY."
Yeah—f*cking TOMBOY.
The surge in popularity during "TOMBOY" carried over into "Nxde" promotions.
Sales jumped from 170,000 (TOMBOY also sold well) to 670,000 copies.
Now, from "Nxde" at 670,000 copies to "QUEENCARD" at 1 million, and "SUPERLADY" at 1.53 million.
Regarding streaming records:
"LATATA" ranked 83rd in Melon’s 2018 yearly domestic chart and 88th in the comprehensive chart.
"DUMDi DUMDi" ranked 101st in the comprehensive yearly chart... γ
From "TOMBOY" onwards, (G)I-DLE has consistently ranked on the yearly charts.
"TOMBOY" was 2nd, and the B-side "MY BAG" was also on the yearly chart.
In 2022, "Nxde" was 85th, and in 2023, it climbed to 32nd.
"QUEENCARD" ranked 7th in 2023's yearly chart, and its B-side "Allergy" was also in the yearly chart.
This year, tracks like "Wife," "SUPERLADY," and "I Hate Being Sick" are expected to make it to the yearly chart.
Overall, they seem like a girl group that has blown up three times.
THE COMMENTS:
- (G)I-DLE μ μμ° is truly amazing.
- With such achievements, I hope they won't pull any stunts like the song "Wife" again.
- I feel like they have blown up four times, even enduring some missteps.
- I believe a big part of their success is their self-production, and having several members with great vocal skills is a significant advantage.
- Jeon Soyeon, what even are you?
- Is Cube's CEO just the luckiest person alive? How did such talent find its way to the company?
- Initially, the individual personalities of the members were less distinct, but starting with "TOMBOY," they became more noticeable. Jeon Soyeon not only writes great songs but also distributes parts in a way that highlights each member's charm, something regular songwriters might not manage.
- All their songs are great, even "POP/STARS"... I can't count how many times I've watched their Killing Voice performance.
- If Jeon Soyeon and Min Hee-jin co-founded a company, they'd make billions... seriously.
- Was "LATATA" only 2,000 copies? It's a great song.
- A true success story.
- (G)I-DLE is just incredible... their songs are always a hit, and Jeon Soyeon's skills are truly impressive.
- Absolutely amazing.
- Each member has their unique charm.
- The "Queendom" performance with "Lion" was truly a game-changer.
- The more you see them, the more impressive they become.
- I really like "LATATA."
- Sometimes I forget that "Lion" didn't win, because it was such a massive hit. The group made a significant impact.
- Even "DUMDi DUMDi" was quite successful, peaking at 101 on the yearly chart. But the way they surged even further from there is amazing.
- Seeing Yuqi's solo album with 560,000 copies, that's quite a feat. Watching them grow from the beginning, even from Jeon Soyeon's days on "Produce 101," has been satisfying.
- A 7-year-old girl group from a small company achieving this level of success is remarkable.
- It's awesome how "I NEVER DIE" became a reality.
- It's literally "I NEVER DIE." π
- It's hard to believe "LATATA" only sold 2,000 copies initially, given its quality.
- Once a small company girl group loses momentum, it's really hard to regain it, but (G)I-DLE has managed to do it.
- When I saw (G)I-DLE at overseas concerts, they got a fantastic reception. The crowd reactions and chanting were incredibly enthusiastic.
- The fact that they made a comeback with "TOMBOY" after a scandal and managed to succeed is incredible.
- "Queendom" was just such an impactful performance that they became instantly memorable.
- (G)I-DLE has such great songs and excellent stage presence.
- The album title "I NEVER DIE" leading to a 2nd-place hit is just too cool.
- It's always exciting to see what they'll do next.
- (G)I-DLE Never Die.
- Not only does Jeon Soyeon create great music, but Minnie and Yuqi also add their unique styles, making the albums engaging from start to finish. The departure of one member seemed to actually strengthen the group, as they no longer had to split the parts among 6, allowing them to allocate parts more effectively.
- Considering they came from a small company and made it this far through self-production is astonishing.
- Their songs are fantastic. I always listen to the entire album when they release new music.
- This group has so much potential. Their success through self-production is a positive precedent for K-pop.
- I wonder how good a boy group led by Jeon Soyeon would be... I can’t help but imagine it after reading these comments. π
- Overseas fans seem to value self-production a lot. While not all groups need it, there's a unique pride that fans have, which makes them more loyal. (I'm not a fan, just sharing my observations!)
- They're really good at singing.
- Jeon Soyeon is insanely talented...
- "Lion" is such a masterpiece. They really smashed it with that one.
- Jeon Soyeon is not only good at creating music but also excellent at directing and distributing parts among members. The way she openly criticized SUPERLADY's initial draft was a bold move. π
- Proud of (G)I-DLE ❤️π
- Jeon Soyeon’s career is insane.
- Each member has their unique charm.
- I got to know them through "TOMBOY." They turned a crisis into an opportunity.
- "The miracle of the small company" best describes (G)I-DLE.
- At first, my friend and I thought their music was good, but their dance needed more practice. However, over time, you could see them improving, showing how well they've developed.
- Initially, people thought they'd collapse after the scandal and criticized them for how they handled it, but they bounced back, showing the group's resilience.
- They have a solid concept, great skills, and looks to back it up.
- The guitar-driven tracks in "TOMBOY" are a great addition; they should keep going with it. Even "I Hate Being Sick" is awesome, and so is "REVENGE."
- Their songs are great.
- Cube is truly blessed.
- The rock-inspired songs suit them so well. This time "I Hate Being Sick" is good, but "REVENGE" is amazing.
- The songs keep getting better, with well-defined concepts. The members execute them perfectly.
- Jeon Soyeon isn’t just good at songwriting; she’s also a talented producer.
- I love their songs; they fill my day with joy (am I a fan? π).
- They have strong concepts, great songs, and interesting members.
- Jeon Soyeon’s career is mind-blowing.
- Jeon Soyeon is truly talented, and the members have unique personalities that work well together. I love (G)I-DLE because they make me laugh and have amazing performances.
- They are so cool; I'm rooting for them!
- I think Cube has a great eye for talent. My favorite songs are "HANN," "Oh My God," and "DUMDi DUMDi." I can't let go of those various emotions.
- They produce great music.
- Their initial album sales aren't as reliant on Chinese fans compared to other top-tier groups. It's a shame to see them underestimated just because they're from a smaller company.
- It's frustrating to see (G)I-DLE belittled just because they're from a small company.
- (G)I-DLE's music is so good! Love it!
- Even their B-sides are fantastic. Whenever a new album comes out, I listen to all of it.
- I think this year's "I Hate Being Sick" will easily make it to the top 5 of the yearly charts. It's incredible that they've done this three years in a row.
- "TOMBOY" is legendary.
- I got into (G)I-DLE because of "Queendom," and I continue to trust them after "TOMBOY."
- Becoming a 5-member group helped each member's individuality shine through. The good songs are the main factor, but the vocalists really do a great job and bring a lot of charm.
- Their songs have always been good, but it's surprising to hear that their early sales were so low.
- (G)I-DLE is the best! π₯Ίπ❤️
- All their songs are great.
- Maybe they only released 2,000 copies of "LATATA" in the first place.
- "Lion" had such a massive impact.
- Transitioning to a 5-member group was a turning point.
- I got into (G)I-DLE after seeing their "Lion" performance; it was incredible.
- I hope they win a Grand Prize at least once.
- Just when you think they're about to fade away, they rise again. It's impressive.
- I didn't realize they had a 1 year and 2-month break. "Uh-Oh" is a song I really liked.
- They've had a few songs that were a bit off, but then they come back with absolute hits. It's fascinating to see.
- I've been watching (G)I-DLE since their debut, and it's so great to see them grow like this.
- I'm not a fan, but I really liked (G)I-DLE since their debut. It's amazing to see them succeed; it makes me proud. π
- I usually don't listen to all tracks in an album, but with (G)I-DLE, I always play the whole album. Even the B-sides are great, like "MY BAG."
- (G)I-DLE is a group that deserves to win a Grand Prize.
- I only know Jeon Soyeon, but she's truly incredible.
- I listened to "TOMBOY" a lot, and when I heard they had a new song, I immediately checked it out.
- I hope they continue to grow!
- From the beginning, their songs have always been successful. It's impressive.
- When Jeon Soyeon's contract with Cube ends, she should start her own company.
- (G)I-DLE is truly legendary.
- (G)I-DLE's songs are great, and their growing popularity from a small company is impressive.
