[Exclusive] ‘Controversy over sensationalism’ (G)I-DLE’s ‘Wife’, lyrics revised… KBS discusses reconsideration

[Star News | [Reporter Seong-yeol Yoon]

Girl group (G)I-DLE's (G)I-DLE (Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Yuqi, Shuhua)'s new song 'Wife', which sparked controversy over its sensationalism, has been judged ineligible for KBS broadcast, and its agency Cube Entertainment is expected to apply for reconsideration.

According to Star News coverage on the 24th, (G)I-DLE and Cube Entertainment are discussing revising some of the lyrics of 'Wife', which became a problem in the KBS song review, and applying for re-deliberation. As the group is scheduled to appear on a terrestrial music program, it seems inevitable that the lyrics will be modified for a smooth comeback.

As a result of KBS' music review, 'Wife' was deemed unfit for broadcast due to its suggestive lyrics. KBS explained the reason for not broadcasting it as “lyrics that are overly sensational.”

THE COMMENTS:

1. I don’t understand why they thought those lyrics would pass review..

2. It's like you wrote lyrics confidently and then changed them because TV doesn't work, which is kind of annoying haha. Didn't you know that was going to happen hahaha

3. If you want to fix it, you'll have to do it on a really large scale.

4. If you're going to edit it, what did you write it for? Haha. If you want to say something, say it confidently. If you're going to edit it, you shouldn't have written it like that in the first place.

5. Isn’t this the level where all the lyrics need to be overturned?

6. Were you planning on broadcasting that...?

7. I think it's just noise marketing

8. Rather than changing a few words, change the lyrics or add a 19+ tag.

9. Everyone knows it's not just a matter of a few words haha.

10. I'm purely curious as to why it wasn't 19+ a long time ago...This is the first time I've ever seen the word "fuck me" appear in the lyrics of an idol song... Foreigners may be shielded from this because they don't know the nuance of that phrase.

11. Was this a song made to be broadcast? Wow,the English version is priced at 19+...

12. The beat is good, but if it's a song with low-quality lyrics, who listens to pop songs? Who listens to low-quality Korean idol songs that only copy patterns?

13. No, if you were going to perform on stage, you shouldn't have written lyrics like that in the first place...

14. The beat is good, but if you just change the lyrics...

15. If they wanted to keep the lyrics as is, they should have released a separate 19+ clean version from the beginning... I don't understand.
